Frank C. Setzer

Frank C. Setzer, DMD, PhD, MS

Dr. Setzer graduated from the Dental School of the Friedrich- Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 1995, where he also received his doctoral degree in 1998. He pursued his endodontic specialty training at the University of Pennsylvania after working for nine years in a multi-specialist private practice as associate and partner. Dr. Setzer graduated from the endodontic program of the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, receiving the Louis I Grossman Postdoctoral Student Award in Endodontics. He earned a Master of Science in Oral Biology and a DMD degree in 2008 and 2010, respectively. Dr. Setzer serves as the Clinic Director and Pre-Doctoral Program Director at the Department of Endodontics of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Setzer lectures on several topics of endodontics throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has authored articles on endodontics in peer-review journals and serves as Associate Editor for Endodontics for Quintessence International and, amongst other journals, on the scientific advisory board of Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal and Journal of the American Dental Association.

Bekir Karabucak

Bekir Karabucak, DMD, MS

Dr. Karabucak is Department Chair, Associate Professor of Endodontics and Director of the Postdoctoral Endodontics Program. He is involved with endodontic courses/seminars in pre- and post-doctoral programs. He also runs selective microscope training courses for pre-doctoral students.
After earning his dental degree from Istanbul University School of Dental Medicine in 1993, Dr. Karabucak completed his endodontic postgraduate training at the Department of Endodontics at Penn, where he also received his Masters in Oral Biology in 1998. He later earned his DMD degree from Penn Dental Medicine in 2002. His research interests include the cellular mechanisms of vasodilation and the inflammatory mediators in the dental pulp, outcome assessment of endodontic treatments and the effects of dental materials on endodontic success.
Dr. Karabucak has been the attending endodontist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia since 2005 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Additionally, he has lectured at national and international conferences and also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Endodontics.

Syngcuk Kim

Syngcuk Kim, DDS, PhD, MD (Hon)

Dr. Syngcuk Kim is the Louis I. Grossman Professor of the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He is also Associate Dean for Global Affairs and Associate Dean for Advanced Dental Education for the School of Dental Medicine. He earned his undergraduate and his dental degrees from Columbia University in New York. Dr. Kim also earned his Ph.D. in circulatory physiology at the Medical School of Columbia University, Department of Physiology.
Dr. Kim is well known and respected for his research in dental pulp physiology and microcirculation and the AAE has awarded him the Louis I. Grossman Award for outstanding research.
Upon joining the Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 as Chairman of the Department of Endodontics, Dr. Kim not only brought the department into the “New Age” of the Microscope, but also established the Microscope Training Center at the school. This Center is the first university-based microscope-training program in the world that teaches microendodontics and microsurgery. Since its inception, leaders in endodontic education and clinical practitioners from the USA, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia have been trained at the Center.
In 2010 Dr. Kim was appointed by the Dean to the role of Associate Dean of Global Affairs at the School of Dental Medicine. Serving in this capacity, Dr. Kim travels extensively creating relationships with Dental Schools throughout Europe and Asia, South America, etc. with the goal of promoting academic and scholarly exchange between the teaching institutions.
Extensive speaking engagements take Dr. Kim to universities, conferences, study clubs and professional associations in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to over a hundred articles in peer reviewed journals Dr. Kim is the primary author of the book titled “Color Atlas of Microsurgery in Endodontics”.

Samuel Kratchman

Samuel Kratchman, DMD

Dr. Sam Kratchman was born and raised in New York. He received a B.S. in Biology and a D.M.D. both from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Sam then entered the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a certificate of endodontics, and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Endodontics and the Assistant Director of Graduate Endodontics, in charge of the microsurgical portion of the program.
Dr. Kratchman has authored several articles and chapters on endodontics and intentional replantation for the Microsurgery in Endodontics textbook, and the Dental Clinics of North America. He also developed a patented instrument called the S Kondenser for the obturation of root canals. Both Main Line Today and Doctor of Dentistry magazines honored Dr. Kratchman as the cover story for their “Best of “ issues.
Dr. Kratchman lectures on several topics of endodontics throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, South America, Canada and Asia. He also maintains three private practices, limited to endodontics, in Exton and West Chester Pennsylvania.

Meetu Ralli Kohli

Meetu Ralli Kohli, BDS, DMD

Dr. Meetu Ralli Kohli is the Director for Continuing Education and International Visiting Scholar Program at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, Endodontic department. Dr. Kohli earned her B.D.S. degree from Government Dental College, Bangalore, India. She pursued her D.M.D. degree as well as specialty training in Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. During the course of her training she received the esteemed Louis I Grossman award, the Samuel R. Rossman scholarship and the Sherrill Ann Siegel award & scholarship for demonstrating excellence in patient care, clinical skills and research. She is on the Scientific Advisory Board as a reviewer for Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal and Quintessence International. Dr. Kohli has published in national and international peer reviewed journals and has contributed in books on microsurgical retreatment. Her publication has received and has been recognized as the best clinical research paper by JOE. She is the recommend speaker by the AAE for Microsurgery and Prognosis. She has served on the AAE’s Constitution and Bylaws committee and is currently serves in the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee. She is a Diplomate of the American Board or Endodontics. She is an examiner for the Indian Board of Endodontics. Dr. Kohli also maintains a part-time private practice limited to Endodontics in Pennsylvania, USA.

Martin Trope

Martin Trope, BDS, DMD

Dr. Martin Trope was born in Johannesburg, South Africa where he received his BDS degree in dentistry in 1976. From 1976 to 1980 he practiced General Dentistry and Endodontics. In 1980 he moved to Philadelphia to specialize in, Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating as an Endodontist he continued at the University of Pennsylvania as a faculty member until 1989 when he became Chair of Endodontology at Temple University, School of Dentistry. In 1993 he accepted the JB Freedland Professorship in the Department of Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry. Named in honor of one of the founding fathers of Endodontics, the Freedland Professorship recognizes significant contributions to the specialty. Dr. Trope is now Clinical Professor, Department of Endodontics, School of Dental Medicine, and University of Pennsylvania. He is also in private practice in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Trope has served as a Director of the American Board of Endodontics. Before entering full time private practice he was editor-in-chief of two journals, Dental Traumatology and Endodontic Topics. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and on the Advisory Board of Esthetic Dentistry. He has published over 180 papers and written many book chapters. In 2002 he was awarded "The Louis I. Grossman Award" for cumulative publication of significant research by the American Association of Endodontists
Dr. Trope's is actively involved in the development, design and promotion of new technological advancements in Endodontics. Presently he acts as Clinical Director for Brasseler Dental Company.
Dr. Trope has created Next Level Endodontics (nextlevelendodontic.com) continuing dental education combining his extensive background of the theoretical world of academics with his considerable experience in private practice."

Mohammed Alharbi

Dr. Mohammed Alharbi, BDS

Dr. Mohammed Alharbi is an assistant Professor at the Endodontic department at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Alharbi received his BDS Degree from King Abdulaziz University in 2009 with an Honor Degree. Dr. Alharbi completed his Endodontic postgraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and Doctor of Science in Dentistry (DScD) from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. He received Hatton research award from the IADR in 2017, The Young Investigator award from the AADR mineralized tissue group 2017, and the KAU Dean’s researcher award for the faculty with the highest impact factor in 2019. Dr. Alharbi lectures nationally and internationally as a member of Penn Endo Global Symposium team.
